International flights become more expensive

Thai Airways passengers on international flights will now have to pay more in fuel surcharges as the carrier raised prices on Monday.

THAI’s non-stop Bangkok-Los Angeles flight took the highest fuel surcharge increase of US$20.50, whilst European services rose by US$10 to US$86.50 and rates for Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane services grew US$10 to US$64.50.

Regional route charges also increased US$6 a sector, the Bangkok-Hong Kong and Bangkok- Singapore services hiking up from US$24.50 to US$30.50

The carrier blamed the higher fuel prices and said the move was also to keep the rates in line with competing carriers on specific routes.
However, Bangkok Post reported that the increase may not be the best move considering oil prices have begun to weaken with West Texas Intermediate crude oil prices declining from $70 a barrel on June 12 to $63.56 a barrel at the end of last week.

It is also speculated that it may not help THAI in boosting ticket sales which have been suffering due to the impact of the economic slowdown and swine flu.

A few flights out of the Pasco Airport were grounded Tuesday.

Airport leaders tell us the automated weather observation system suffered a power outage, and Horizon Air decided to cancel a number of flights.

It’s up and running now and flights are back to normal.  But some passengers were upset they never learned of the canceled flights until they showed up.

Airport leaders say it’s typically the airline’s responsibility to inform of any delays or cancellations.

For Jakarta flights cancellation fees waived off

MAS said it would exempt all applicable cancellation penalties and refund administration fees for these tickets.

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) advised today that passengers who have booked flights from Australian points to Jakarta will be allowed to defer their travel dates up to 15 September 2009.

However, deferred dates of travel will be subject to seat availability on the original booking class

Passengers will also have to pay the additional amount involved if they request rerouting.

This announcement follows the recent bombings at JW Marriott and the Ritz-Carlton in Jakarta Indonesia.
